What's on this week

Greetings two-legged friends!

What a weekend that was! Huge thanks to everyone who came down to check out the Glass Onion on its pre-opening weekend, and a huge thanks to all the musicians and actors who performed as well. It was very special for those of us who've been looking at an empty space for some time to get some sort of idea of what a lovely hangout the place can become when full of wonderful people and creative energies.

The Onion will be having its full Grand Opening weekend on 15 to 17 September - but will be opening for a second shot at the pre-opening on the weekend commencing the 1st September too so it need not be shut for too long at a time. If you missed out this weekend be sure to get down on one of these occasions and make yourself at home in YOUR new community centre.

So without further ado lets have a look at this weeks eventertainment:

Wednesday

The Pixie Folke are at Bar Lisboa (24 Lincoln Road) on Wednesday night from 8pm for acoustic jamming and open mic sessions. Entrance is free - just bring your instruments or ears.

Thursday

Unity at Lisboa this Thursday has the pleasure of bringing two great bands to the Lisboa stage. This Interview and Loop . Loop received a warm reception last year when they last visited us, and This Interview are a band we've been trying to secure for some time so this should be a really good night. Unity's doors open at 8pm to an acoustic jam session. The night will finish with the wonderful DJ Urb on the decks. Entrance costs £2 or £1 with a Muddy Promotions membership card.

Round the corner in Geneva's Irene Rae is appearing along with support acts. Entrance is free.

Friday

The Brewery Tap's acoustic sessions continue this Friday -this time guest hosted by Irene Rae (a very busy lady this week). Other acts on the bill include the very talented and incredibly tall John Litchfield, and Julian Stone (tbc). Entrance is free and music starts from 9pm.

This Friday the Audio Collective are returning to Lisboa after a bit of a break. The music policy will provide a diverse menu of hard dance, breaks and old-skool drum and bass. Doors times are 9pm till late and entrance is free.

Saturday

Dizzy Funk's "Diszkotek" night is back on the bill at Lisboa this Saturday - this is Dizzy Funk's techno incarnation so expect banging underground techno to take you through the night and into the dawn. Doors are open 9pm till 5am and entrance is FREE before 11pm (£5 after).

Sunday

Deep Roots (now twinned with Unity Acoustic) is the regular Sunday chillout session at Lisboa, kicking out chilled out vibes to soothe sore Sunday heads with a mixture of laid back acoustic music, hip-hop, ambient, dub....an endless list of eclecticism. Entrance is free and the event begins with a BBQ in the back garden at 6pm.

Down the road in Stamford Irene Rae is completing a very busy weekend with a show in The Bull and Swan, Stamford. You can contact Irene via www.irenerae.co.uk for more info.

...and Finally

Local rock masters Wake are through to the final of the Band Wars competition they have entered and have asked for your support in the form of voting for them online. It takes just a few minutes and you may even get some Wake Cake out of it one day.... if you would like to show your support please visit www.studentbands.co.uk/bandwars

Plans are also afoot for the first Grassroots event since the Festival - with the Grassroots Equinox Party due to take place on September 23rd. This will be another 16 hour melting pot of eclecticism in true Muddy style - with the mighty Nucleus Roots joining a very diverse bill of acts to have you going sweating from start to finish. Both floors of Lisboa will be occupied by the party for this one. More details will follow - and keep your eyes peeled for the flyers which will be hitting the streets wihtin the next week.

I've also attached a short file aimed at the musicians amongst you, just to make you aware of the many ways we can help you. Particularly remember that this mailout hit 700 inboxes a week and is here to promote YOUR gigs/events. Just let us know what you have on in advance and we'll make sure it is included. If you are a promoter or a venue owner let me know and I'll mail you a similar file relating to what we can offer you.

Peace love unity and respect
